Throughout the 1980s, Bristol Mountain Bluegrass was one of the most popular bands in the Central New York area.
Beyond their home region, they were received enthusiastically, playing festivals, colleges, and club dates in ten
states and Canada. They appeared on the Nashville Network's Fire on the Mountain, and they recorded three very
successful albums for the Revonah label.
And now they're back! Original band members Don Springer and Richard Hood have teamed up with Perry Cleaveland
and Norm Darling to create a powerful band that's even more exciting than the original. Perry and Norm are
well-known, award-winning master musicians on Mandolin and Bass, respectively. Richard and Don have been
traveling and playing old-time music as the Bristol Brothers, but are now eager to put the old band back together
and play some hard-driving traditional bluegrass.
The Band has played, as well, at a number of Arts Centers and Schools, where they engage students directly in
the music, writing songs with them and playing and singing together. At adult functions, they interweave the
history and styles of bluegrass and its roots into their show, creating a concert that's both entertaining and
informative. They've been sponsored by the New York Council of the Arts, the Central Ohio Arts Council's
"Artists in Schools" program, and a variety of other cultural programs and institutions. The Band has been featured
at scores of colleges, both in formal programs and in classroom lectures and workshops. Richard Hood is co-director
of Denison University's Student Bluegrass Program.
We're sure you'll find Bristol Mountain Bluegrass to be exactly what you're looking for in a good, experienced
traditional bluegrass band. they're presently booking for the upcoming season, their rates are reasonable,
and they would love to talk with you about playing your venue.
